Gorilla sites

We love gorillas, why wouldn't you. Granted they don't use mobile phones... in fact, could a gorilla actually use an iPod. Now there's something I'd like to see. They have such thick skin could they use the clickwheel? Would the earphones fit? Could they download an mp3 from iTunes? Who knows? Anyway, here's a list of some cool gorilla sites that we encourage you to look at, perhaps learn from and hopefully make a donation to.

If you know of any other gorilla charity or gorilla organisations that we could link to please let us know. You would be helping to raise awareness of this noble creatures plight in the wild.

Gorilla Foundation
Established in 1976, The Gorilla Foundation/Koko.org promotes the protection, preservation and propagation of gorillas. Project Koko, a primary focus of TGF/Koko.org, involves teaching a modified form of American Sign Language to two lowland gorillas.

Geomatics
The goal of the project was to use state-of-the-art Geomatics technologies in support of the on-going research activities to preserve the Mountain Gorillas in the Virunga mountains, one of the least mapped and more inaccessible areas in the world.

WWF
Known worldwide by its panda logo, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) leads international efforts to protect endangered species and their habitats. Now in its fifth decade, WWF works in more than 100 countries around the globe to conserve the diversity of life on earth.

Ape Alliance
The Ape Alliance is an international coalition of organisations and individuals, working for the conservation and welfare of apes.

Born Free

Bushmeat Crisis Task Force
The BCTF, founded in 1999, is a consortium of conservation organizations and scientists dedicated to the conservation of wildlife populations threatened by commercial hunting of wildlife for sale as meat. The BCTF operates under the direction of an elected Steering Committee and is funded by Supporting and Contributing Members.

Bushmeat Project
Great apes, gorillas, chimpanzees, and bonobos are being hunted to extinction for commercial bushmeat in the equatorial forests of west and central Africa. A ragged far flung army of a few thousand commercial bushmeat hunters supported by the timber industry infrastructure will illegally shoot and butcher more than two billion dollars worth of wildlife this year, including as many as 8,000 endangered great apes.

Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund
Cwaf aims to ensure Cameroon's primates have a healthy future. Working with the government, local communities and other ecological groups around the world, we hope to show people the amazing diversity of wildlife in Cameroon, and explain exactly how and why it should be protected.

Great Ape Project
The idea is founded upon undeniable scientific proof that non-human great apes share more than genetically similar DNA with their human counterparts. They enjoy a rich emotional and cultural existence in which they experience emotions such as fear, anxiety and happiness.

The John Aspinall Foundation
The John Aspinall Foundation in conjunction with Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks is devoted to saving rare and endangered animals, returning them to protected areas in the wild. As a charity we rely on the support of the general public to help fund our work.

The Humane Society of the US
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has worked since 1954 to promote the protection of all animals. With nearly ten million members and constituents, The HSUS is the nation’s largest and most powerful animal protection organization, working in the United States and abroad to defend the interests of animals. We celebrate the human-animal bond, and we fight animal cruelty and abuse in all of its forms.

International Fund for Animal Welfare
The International Fund for Animal Welfare works to improve animal welfare, prevent animal cruelty and abuse, protect wildlife and provide animal rescue around the world. From stopping the elephant ivory trade, to ending the Canadian seal hunt and saving the whales from extinction, IFAW works to create solutions that benefit both animals and people.

International Primate Protection League
IPPL helps sanctuaries rescue young primates whose mothers have been killed for bushmeat. Sanctuaries offer these orphans a chance to return to the wild, whilst providing education and employment for local people. By monitoring the international trade in primates, IPPL also protects wild populations.

The Primate Society of Great Britain
The PSGB was founded in 1967 to promote research into all aspects of primate biology, conservation and management. The Society is very strong scientifically and holds regular scientific meetings. In addition, the Society has launched a conservation appeal to help the urgent plight of primates in nature. This appeal is co-ordinated by our Conservation Working Party, which considers and works towards many aspects of primate conservation.

Volcanoes Safaris
Africa's Great Apes are under serious threat and as the leading gorilla safari company, Volcanoes cannot remain indifferent to their plight. We believe long-term partnerships between eco-tourism companies, local communities, conservation organisations, governments and donors are essential for their survival.

Wildlife Line
We'd like to introduce you to wildlifeline: a vital new organisation that has been created with one intention in mind. To become the most cost-effective mechanism devoted to world conservation efforts. Both on land and in the oceans.
